YARN is small, intimate and made for a good yarn: good food, good drinks and the sort of room where strangers end up talking.
Local, down to the details
All burger beef, chicken and sausage pork comes from Dartmouth Butchers. Greengrocery comes from Devon and Cornwall suppliers. YARN sauce, hollandaise, sides, add-ons and pickles are homemade or locally sourced. Speciality sauces come from The Cornish Smoke Squad. Coffee is The Truth from Roastworks in Crediton. The bar pours Utopian craft ales and lagers, Hunts cider, and Ellis wines including organic and vegan bottles.
A good yarn since the beginning
Created by Jade and Will after returning from New Zealand, YARN passed to Kerry and Simon in June 2022. Head Chef Xav is from Réunion, and his French, Chinese, African, Malay and Indian Creole influences feed the monthly Visitor burger. The Carbonator option serves any chosen burger over crisp lettuce and tomato instead of a brioche bap. The Wandering Cook is part of YARN's pop-up story, and visiting chefs are welcome to get in touch. The team also shares local Dartmouth knowledge with visitors. YARN is very dog friendly, accepts cash and keeps one high chair. Tables are relaxed when quiet, with around 60 to 75 minutes allowed at busy times. Walk-ins are welcome, with a waitlist when full.
Book, collect or bring the whole table
Reserve the evening service here with adults, children, dogs, allergies and special requests included from the start. Reservations are strongly recommended. Order and collect a takeaway online at 4A Smith Street. Groups of 9 to 14 can preorder, including children first when needed. Private gatherings can seat up to 20 with a menu shaped around the occasion. Brunch is walk-in only. Please tell the team about allergies: the kitchen is very small and cannot guarantee no cross-contamination. Follow YARN on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
